Meet the Founder
Mr. Hassan A. Makky
A Lebanese national with a deep passion for his country’s nature, Hassan has always believed that Lebanon is more than a destination—it is a remarkable landscape waiting to be explored, respected, and shared.
A Vision Shaped by Lebanon
Hassan holds a degree in Business Administration and gained years of managerial experience in the Arabian Gulf. When he returned to Lebanon, he recognized a clear gap in the tourism sector. Traditional tourism focused largely on well-known destinations, while Lebanon’s hiking trails, wilderness, rural landscapes, and hidden natural treasures remained underexplored.
The Beginning of Mashaweer
In 2017, Hassan established Mashaweer to help bridge that gap and introduce people to a different way of experiencing Lebanon.
The name Mashaweer (مشاوير)—meaning “journeys” or “outings”—was chosen deliberately and with strategic foresight. Rather than limiting the brand to ecotourism alone, Hassan selected a broad and flexible identity that could naturally support future expansion into traditional travel, cultural, recreational, adventure, and many other forms of tourism.
Opening New Paths
Through hiking, camping, nature exploration, and tours led by a guide to lesser-known destinations, Mashaweer encouraged participants not only to see Lebanon, but to walk its paths, discover its communities, and form a deeper connection with its natural and human heritage.
What began as a local initiative soon developed into a pioneering and influential name in Lebanese ecotourism, particularly in Hassan’s local area and the surrounding region.
Mashaweer helped make hiking and nature exploration more accessible, transforming them from activities associated mainly with experienced adventurers into welcoming social and cultural experiences.
This early movement contributed to the wider growth of hiking and ecotourism culture in Lebanon and helped pave the way for the later emergence of many groups within the sector.
“I did not establish Mashaweer just to organize trips. I established it because I wanted people to see Lebanon differently—to walk its paths, discover its hidden beauty, meet its communities, and feel proud of the country beneath their feet.
Mashaweer began with a passion for Lebanon and a belief that discovery can bring people closer—to nature, to their country, and to one another.”
